Sion’s Story

Coniston old man
Sion Jair, Mountain man!

I have been walking and climbing mountains all over the UK for the past 50 years, gaining a wealth of experience both in navigational techniques and in the use of equipment, from the right clothing to communication and special night vision equipment. On my walks, I have helped countless walkers finding their way if lost, whether in good or in bad weather.

Some years ago I was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and even though that has curtailed my freedom of movement across the country, I can still do what I love best, on a daily basis: climbing mountains in familiar areas. Regular physical activity is helping to delay the devastating effects of the disease and I hope that I can inspire and encourage other dementia sufferers, and their loved ones, that by doing what you love and keeping physically active, they will be able to enjoy life to the full for as long as possible.
